A facial is a product-based treatment focused on cleansing, exfoliation and hydration, usually with little downtime. Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries that prompt a healing response, so it involves screening and a few days of visible recovery.
Start with your main goal and how much recovery time you can plan around. If you’re unsure, book an Esthetician’s Choice Facial; your esthetician will assess your skin and recommend whether a targeted facial, peel or microneedling makes sense later.
Microneedling can suit many skin tones and types, but not everyone. Active acne, infections, keloid history, some medications and recent procedures can make it inappropriate. Your provider screens your history first and may suggest a clinician’s input.
It depends on the treatment and your goal. Facials are often enjoyed as ongoing maintenance, while microneedling is commonly planned as a series. Your provider will suggest a plan after seeing how your skin responds, without guaranteeing a set number.
Expect a short consultation, cleansing, exfoliation suited to your skin, any appropriate extractions, a mask, and moisturizer with sunscreen. Steps are adjusted to your skin that day, and you can ask to skip anything.
Usually some. Redness, tightness and sensitivity similar to a mild sunburn are common for a few days, and some people notice light flaking. Your provider will give you aftercare and tell you when makeup and active products can resume.
Arrive with a clean or lightly made-up face, a list of the skincare and medications you use, and notes about recent treatments or sun exposure. Don’t stop prescriptions on your own; ask your prescriber if you have questions.
Facials can help with dryness, dullness, congestion and the look of uneven tone. Microneedling may soften the appearance of some acne scars, fine lines and uneven texture over time. Neither replaces medical care for skin conditions.
Facials are generally relaxing. Microneedling can feel scratchy or prickly, and your provider will explain the comfort options they use. Tell them any time you’re uncomfortable so they can adjust.
Many people notice fresher, more hydrated-looking skin right after a facial. Microneedling changes develop gradually as skin heals and remodels over weeks, so results are best judged after a full series.
